Review - Masters of the Universe (2026)
Hey guys, Chuck here. Masters of the Universe is a new fantasy sci-fi movie from director Travis Knight, and is based on the franchise He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. This movie stars Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, Charlotte Riley, James Purefoy, and Jared Leto.
So, the story of Masters of the Universe follows Prince Adam, the son of King Randor and former astronaut Queen Marlena, who must return from his exile on Earth to save his home world of Eternia from the clutches of the evil Skeletor and his vast forces, teaming with other warriors like Teela and Man-at-Arms.
One of the first things I took in with this movie is that it's an absolute visual feast. Which, given Travis Knight's previous work with Bumblebee, isn't a surprise. The immense detail that went into building the world of Eternia, and such locations as Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain, as well as such warriors as Mekaneck, Fisto, Ram-Man, Roboto, and of course such vile foes as Skeletor, Beast Man, Trap Jaw, and so forth. The visual effects in this movie are a genuine testament to Travis Knight's skills as a cinematic artist.
The performances were absolutely stellar, as well, with the three chief standouts being Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms. I also enjoyed seeing Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena, and James Purefoy as King Randor. And, while the guy gets dunked on a lot, I thought that Jared Leto as pretty damn intimidating as Skeletor. The.only.one that I found to be too over-the-top and ridiculous for my taste was probably Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. But, then again, I never really cared much for Alison Brie anyway, so make of that what you will.
While only a small part of the movie, the scenes of Adam on Earth did drag a bit, and felt like a step down coming off of such an epic opening segment on Eternia. But, I think that it was done that way intentionally as a way.to show the difference between the more fantastical world of Eternia and the more mundane world of Earth. But, I did think it was smart that Adam remembered his childhood on Eternia, even to the point of having drawings of the many warriors he would later team up with to save Eternia from Skeletor, so that was neat.
Overall, Masters of the Universe was a really fun, visually stunning, action packed adventure that is already one of my favorite movies of the year. I definitely recommend checking this one out, and I do advise staying through for a fun mid-credits scene.
Alright guys, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you in the next review.
