HallowScream - Batman: The Long Halloween (2021)

Happy Halloween everyone, Chuck here, and we've reached the end of yet another HallowScream . And, honestly, I can't think of a better way to end out this year's HallowScream than by talking about the two-part animated film based on one of the most iconic Batman comic book stories of all time: Batman: The Long Halloween . Released in the summer of 2021, part one in June and part two in July, this animated film sees Batman have to contend with a deranged serial killer, a death of familiar foes, and a dangerous new threat in the form of Two-Face.             So, part one starts off with the death of Johnny Viti, nephew of Gotham mob boss Carmine Falcone, by a killer who leaves behind both the murder weapon and a jack-o'-lantern. This leads to a meeting on the GCPD rooftop between police captain James Gordon, District Attorney Harvey Dent, and Bruce Wayne/Batman. After the meeting, Batman is led on a chase by Selina Kyle/Catwoman, who leads him to a warehouse sto

HallowScream - Constantine (2005)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and it's hard to believe that we're almost finished with yet another HallowScream . So, for the penultimate review of this year's edition of HallowScream , let's dive into the world of DC with Constantine. Released in 2005, this film was directed by Francis Lawrence, and starred Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Djimon Honsou, Gavin Rossdale, Shia Labeouf, Tilda Swinton, and Peter Stormare.           So, the movie is centered around John Constantine, an expert in the paranormal, who is among those who is able to see the denizens of both Heaven and He'll who appear on Earth. You see, apparently God and the Devil made a wager years ago on which one could claim the most amount of human souls, but with the condition that neither side could influence humans directly. Indirect guidance, however, is acceptable. Anyway, we see John ultimately exercise a demon possessing a teenage girl, and ultimately return to his home. The next morning, however, w

HallowScream - The Munsters (2022)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and we're back with more HallowScream , and this time, we're taking a look at the new movie, currently available on Blu-ray and streaming on Netflix, The Munsters starring Jeff Daniel Philips, Sheri Moon Zombie, Daniel Roebuck, Richard Brake, Jorge Garcia, and Sylvester McCoy, and written and directed by Rob Zombie.             Now this movie, based on the classic television sitcom from the 60's, actually serves as a prequel story, as it showcases Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, along with his hunchbacked assistant Floop, robbing dead bodies from graves to conduct a Frankenstein-like experiment. However, when sent to acquire the brain of scientist Shelly Von Rathbone, Floop accidentally mixes Shelly's dead body with that of his heckler twin brother, Shecky Von Rathbone. Upon putting their creation together, Floop suggests the name Herman Munster. Yep, that's right, we literally see the experiment that brought Herman Munster to life in th

Review - Black Adam (2022)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and I just got done with watching the newest DC Extended Universe film Black Adam , directed by Jaume Collett-Serra and Starring Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Viola Davis, and Pierce Brosnan.          Okay, so the movie introduces us to Teth-Adam, who in ancient times was beloved to have been the Champion of the Kingdom of Kahndaq, granted the powers of Shazam by the Wizards. Thousands of years later, and Teth-Adam has been brought back in present day Kahndaq, which is under the ruthless occupation of the criminal syndicate Intergang, to be Champion once again. However, his presence alerts both Amanda Waller and Carter Hall/Hawkman, who assembled the Justice Society to subdue Teth-Adam before things get out of control.            Okay, so easily the one performance that got everyone excited for this movie is Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam, and he definitely owns the role. Now, one thing to remem

HallowScream - Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and after yesterday's gaming HallowScream with Five Nights at Freddy's , it feels nice to get back into talking about movies for HallowScream , which brings us to today's review: Hocus Pocus 2 . Released just last month on Disney+, this sequel to 1993's Hocus Pocus sees the return of Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as the Sanderson sisters, who are brought back to, once again, wreak magical havoc across Salem, Massachusetts.             The movie, actually, opens with a flashback to when the Sanderson sisters were kids themselves, and it shows how they were first cast out by the people of Salem, and how Winifred Sanderson was given her signature spell book by a witch known as the Mother Witch. Flash forward to present day Salem, roughly thirty years after the events of the first Hocus Pocus , and we meet Becca, a high school student and aspiring witch, who along with her best friend Izzy, frequents the Salem Magic Sho

HallowScream - Five Nights at Freddy's (2014)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and I just wanted to get this quick game review out for HallowScream . Here's my quick take on the 2014 gaming sensation Five Nights at Freddy's , created by Scott Cawthon. I recently acquired a copy of the Five Nights at Freddy's Core Collection for Nintendo Switch, and I just got into playing the original game. So, here's my quick take on Five Nights at Freddy's .           The game is set at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, where you are hired as the night watchman, and are assigned to stay in the guard room, watching the monitors of the restaurant from 12 am to 6 am. Ultimately, you have a limited power supply, and once the power runs out, game over. However, if you can survive until 6 am, it's on to the next night.           Throughout the night, you'll be seeing the animatronic characters wandering around the restaurant, such as Bonnie the Bunny, Chica the Chicken, and Foxy the Pirate Fox. Ironically, Freddy Fazbear himse

HallowScream - The Haunted Mansion (2003) - THREE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Hey guys, Chuck here, and it's officially the three-year anniversary of Chuck's Movie Breakdown . and this year, I'm taking a look at a movie that, while I enjoyed seeing it on the big screen, I look back on it and see some of its flaws, and that is the 2003 film The Haunted Mansion  starring Eddie Murphy, Terence Stamp, Nathaniel Parker, Marsha Thomason, and Jennifer Tilly and directed by Rob Minkoff.          Based on the Disney Parks amusement ride, The Haunted Mansion focuses on real estate agent Jim Evers, who struggles with splitting time between his real estate job and spending quality time with his wife, Sara, and their children, Megan and Michael. One night, Sara gets a call about a real estate deal, yeah both Jim and Sarah run the real estate agency Evers & Evers, about a massive mansion owned by Edward Gracey, who seeks to sell it due to the mansion's dark past. Taking their children along for the ride, Jim and Sara arrive at the Gracey Mansion,

HallowScream - Halloween Ends (2022)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and welcome back to HallowScream . Tonight, I just went to see the brand new movie Halloween Ends , directed once again by David Gordon Green and starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Will Patton, Andi Matichak, Kyle Richards, Rohan Campbell, James Jude Courtney, and Nick Castle. This film wraps up the Blumhouse trilogy of Halloween films that kicked off with the 2018 film Halloween and its 2021 sequel Halloween Kills , and it also marks the final appearances of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and Nick Castle as Michael Myers.           It's been four years since the ending of Halloween Kills,  and things in Haddonfield, Illinois have been pretty quiet. Laurie Strode has been living with her granddaughter Allyson, and is no longer letting fear rule her life. But evil takes many forms, and when a young man who accidentally killed a child he was babysitting just one year after the ending of Halloween Kills finds himself ostracized by the still grief stricken H

HallowScream - The Shining (1980)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and we're back with more HallowScream . For today's review, it's time, once again, to talk about Stephen King, and this time it's one of the most famous Stephen King movies of all time, The Shining , directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd, Scatman Crothers, Joe Turkel, and Philip Stone.            So, the movie is set at the Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Mountains, where Jack Torrance is newly hired to serve as the Winter caretaker of the hotel, and he'll be staying at the hotel with his wife, Wendy, and their son, Danny. While touring the hotel, Danny is revealed that have psychic powers, and we learn from a hotel staff member named Dick Halloran that this power is called "The Shining." Danny is also warned to stay out of Room 237, as he has no business going into that room.           As the days turn to weeks, and the weeks turn into months, we learn that the Overlook Hotel i

HallowScream - Werewolf by Night (2022)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and we're back with more HallowScream . And what's really awesome is that, for the first time during HallowScream , we're taking a look at a Marvel Studios project. This is my review of the all-new Marvel Halloween special Werewolf by Night , streaming now exclusively on Disney+.          Okay, so this Halloween special, which is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was directed by noted film composer Michael Giacchino, who of course also worked on the music score for the special. And I gotta say, he did really great with both, and this was, quite honestly, my favorite MCU project of 2022. Now, admittedly, there are still two more MCU releases for the year in the forms of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in November and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special some time around Christmas, but as far as the MCU releases already out there, this is my favorite as of right now.            So, the special is set on the night of a Great Hunt in me

HallowScream - The "Saw" Sequels (2005-2010) & Jigsaw (2017)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and we're back for possibly my biggest HallowScream undertaking yet: discussing the six Saw sequels, which ran from 2005 to 2010, and Jigsaw , which was released in 2017. We've got seven movies to talk about, so let's just get right to it.           So Saw Ii , released in 2005, sees Detective Eric Matthews brought onto the Jigsaw case after an informant of his, Michael, is found dead due to a device rigged by Jigsaw. After finding a clue on the device, which was a death mask designed to close around a person's head in a manner like a Venus Flytrap, Eric and Detective Allison Kerry lead a S.W.A.T. unit, led by Officer Daniel Riggs, to a warehouse that is housing John Kramer/Jigsaw. Eric, while looking at monitors of a Jigsaw game in progress, sees his son, Daniel, on the monitor among the other players. And here's where the movie splits into two plots. One, you have Eric and John just sitting and talking in the warehouse, with Eric s

HallowScream - Sweeney Todd (2007)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and it's officially that time of year again. Time for the spooky, the scary, the creepy, and the macabre. That's right, it's time, once again, for HallowScream . We've got quite a few spooky surprises and fun Halloween treats, not to mention the reviews of Disney's two newest Halloween treats: Hocus Pocus 2 and Marvel's  Werewolf by Night.  So, let's kick off this HallowScream with Tim Burton's 2007 slasher musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street .          So, the movie introduces us to London based Barber Benjamin Barker, who fifteen years prior to the start of the film, was arrested and sentenced to prison on a bogus charge. Now, under the moniker of Sweeney Todd, he has returned to London to get his revenge on those who wronged him all those years ago. Upon returning to his home and place of business on Fleet Street, Todd meets his former neighbor Mrs. Lovett, whose fallen on hard times, because she ma
