Marvel May - The Avengers (2012)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Well, here we are, the final review of Marvel May : my review of The Avengers . Released in 2012, this wasn't a movie, this was an event. Now, I am aware that due to a similarly titled film from the year 2000 based on the British spy TV series from the 60's also called The Avengers , Marvel's The Avengers was released as Marvel's Avengers Assemble in the U.K. However, as someone who lives in the U.S, I'll be calling it as The Avengers . So, let's take a look at The Avengers .           We open with a S.H.I.E.L.D. base being evacuated, as the Tesseract, which had been dormant since World War II, has woken up. S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, arrives to investigate alongside Agent Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders. Dr. Erik Selvig, played by Stellan Skarsgard, has been studying the Tesseract for quite a while, while Agent Clint Barton, played by Jeremy Renner, has been keeping watch on things at the f

Marvel May - Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Hey guys, Chuck here. For those who live in the United States as I do, I hope you're enjoying your Memorial Day weekend. And if you don't live in the United States, I hope you're enjoying this weekend nonetheless. And since it's Memorial Day weekend here in the United States, as of the posting of this review, I feel it's the right time to look at the fifth entry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Captain America: The First Avenger . Released in July of 2011, this Joe Johnston directed superhero film, set during World War II, shows the origins of the first superhero of the Marvel Universe. So, let's dive into Captain America: The First Avenger .            We open with a dig team in Canada, where the wreck of a World War II-era aircraft is found in the ice, with a man inside, holding a shield colored red, white, and blue with a giant star in the middle. Flashing back to World War II, we see a village under attack by German forces working as members of

Marvel May - Thor (2011)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Today, for Marvel May , we'll be taking a look at the fourth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Thor . Based on the Marvel superhero inspired by the Norse god of thunder, Thor was directed by Kenneth Branagh, and is a major step up from the previous year's entry, Iron Man 2 . So, how well does the movie that made Chris Hemsworth a superstar hold up nearly ten years later? Let's find out as we dig into Thor .          So the story goes that many years ago, the warriors of Asgard drove the Frost Giants of Jotunheim from the planet Earth. As time passes, the king of Asgard, Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins), prepares his sons, Thor and Loki, for taking his place ruling over Asgard. In modern times, we see Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) prepare to take the throne, when three Frost Giants attack Odin's vault. Odin dispatches a mystical automaton known as the Destroyer to eliminate the three intruders, Thor, infuriated by the int

Marvel May - Iron Man 2 (2010)

Hey guy, Chuck here, and welcome back to  Marvel May . Today, we're going to take a look at a movie that, while we all tricked ourselves into liking it at the time, we've since looked back at this one and laughed at how ridiculous it really was. And that came in the form of the third film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Iron Man 2 .             Okay, so Robert Downey Jr. is back as Tony Stark, and we see him in the Mark IV Armor as he flys in to a major event that he is hosting for Stark Industries: the Stark Expo. It's also here where we learn that Tony is slowly dying from palladium poisoning, due to the Arc Reactor in his chest. Unfortunately, the American government is pressuring Tony into handing control of the Iron Man technology to the American government and military. After showcasing other countries across the world attempting to re-create the Iron Man suit, Tony shows that all of them, including an attempt by Tony's business rival Justin Hammer, p

Marvel May - The Incredible Hulk (2008)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Today, as part of Marvel May , I'm going to take a look at the consistently overlooked second entry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: 2008's The Incredible Hulk . Part of why this one is overlooked is due to having a different actor as Bruce Banner as the rest of the MCU, and due to the fact that the film was released through Universal, and all MCU films up through Captain America: The First Avenger were released through Paramount. While both The Avengers and Iron Man 3 were released with the Paramount logo, those were both released by Disney. On top of that, the film doesn't really fit into the MCU tonally, but what we have to remember is that the MCU was in its infancy, so there wasn't much there in terms of consistency that the series has now. But is the movie any good? Should it be looked at along with the rest of the Phase One MCU films? Let's find out as we discuss The Incredible Hulk .          During the movie's openin

Marvel May - Iron Man (2008)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and welcome to Marvel May . Throughout the month, I'll be taking a look at movies based on comic books from the house of ideas: Marvel Comics. And what better way to kick off the first annual Marvel May than by taking a look at Phase One of arguably the most successful Marvel movie franchise: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And what was the first film of the now legendary film series? Well, it's none other than the 2008 superhero film: Iron Man .           The movie opens with Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr, who is taken by a terrorist group called the Ten Rings after a military convoy he is part of is attacked while driving from the site of a weapons demonstration in the Afghan desert. About a night or so before that, we see Tony in Las Vegas being presented with the Apogee Award for his various endeavors, including humanitarian efforts and developing military technology. Okay, he's out gambling in the casino during the awards pre
