Breakdown - WWE WrestleMania 42 (2026)
Hey guys, Chuck here, and this weekend saw the WWE hold their annual WrestleMania event, which took place for the second year in a row at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Hosting this year's WrestleMania was the one and only John Cena, and there were a ton of matches and surprises across the weekend. So, let's get started with this recent iteration of the Showcase of the Immortals: WrestleMania.
So, on Day One, we kicked off with a six-man tag team match between Logan Paul, Austin Theory and iShowSpeed against the Usos and L.A. Knight. And, due to a bit of a goof-up by Speed, the Usos and L.A. Knight would pick up the win. Afterwards, we had an unsanctioned match between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu, who would win the match. Next was a Fatal 4-Way tag team match for the Women's Tag Team Championship, which saw the team of Nia Jax and Lash Legend defend the titles against such teams as Bayley and Lyra Valkyria and Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. Now, initially, the Bella Twins were set to both be in the match. But, due to an ankle injury, Nikki Bella was unable to participate in the match, and her sister Brie would instead team up with the returning Paige, and the two would emerge as the new Women's Tag Team Champions. Next, we had the Women's Intercontinental Championship match between AJ Lee and Becky Lynch, which Becky would ultimately win, and this was followed by Gunther defeating Seth Rollins in a one-on-one match, followed by Liv Morgan defeating Stephanie Vaquer for the Women's World Championship. The last match of the day would be the Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. And, after some great struggle, and seeing both Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll going at it at ringside, Cody ultimately retained his title.
As far as the Day One matches go, I enjoyed the Fatal 4-Way tag team match, of mainly for the return of Paige, the six-man tag team match at the beginning, and the unsanctioned match between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu. The others ranged from decent enough to absolute suck fest. As for the main event, it was pretty cool.
Day two kicked off with a massive match: Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi, which saw the rising talent of Oba Femi emerge victorious. Shockingly, upon being defeated by Oba Femi, Brock Lesnar took off his gloves, pads, and boots, left them in the ring, and walked backstage to a massive ovation from the live crowd. The next match was a six-pack ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship, which saw Rusev, JD McDonough, Dragon Lee, Rey Mysterio, and Je'Von Evans going against defending champion Penta, who retained the title. This was followed by a one-on-one title match for the United States Championship between Sami Zayn and Trick Williams, which saw Williams emerge as the new champion. After this, we had a match between Dominik Mysterio and Finn Bálor, which Raw GM Adam Pearce turned into a Street Fight. And, not only am I glad that Finn Bálor won, but I LOVED seeing his Demon gimmick come back after a number of years. Shortly after was the WWE Women's Championship, which pitted defending champion Jade Cargill against Rhea Ripley. And, despite some efforts to cheat with help from B-Fab and Michin, Rhea, with some backup from Iyo Sky, emerged victorious as the new champion. And, to wrap out the day, as well as the entirety of WrestleMania 42, was the title match between CM Punk and Roman Reigns. And, I am thrilled to say that Roman Reigns won the title, and I couldn't be more excited to have watched it happen.
Overall, I found the matches on Day Two of WrestleMania were definitely more entertaining than ones on Day One were. Now, I enjoyed a few matches on Day One matches, but the ones on Day Two that had me much more engaged with what I was seeing unfold. And, I would be remiss if I didn't mention a hilarious slit on Day Two, which featured Cena, The Miz, and Danhausen, and the end results of the skit were pretty damn funny. But, while not the best edition of WrestleMania overall, I certainly did enjoy a good amount of WrestleMania 42 this year.
Alright guys, this is Chuck signing off, and join me tomorrow for a special review in honor of 4/20: Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.
