Review - Now You See Me: Now You Don't (2025)
Hey guys, Chuck here. Now You See Me: Now You Don't is the highly anticipated and long overdue third chapter in the magical heist franchise Now You See Me. Directed by Reuben Fleischer, this movie features the returns of Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, and Morgan Freeman, who are joined by newcomers Justice Smith Ariana Greenblatt, Dominic Sessa, and Rosamund Pike.
So, it's been ten years since the group of magicians known as the Four Horsemen (J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Jack Wilder, and the returning Henley Reeves) were seen, and the four of them must team up with a new trio of magicians (Charlie, Bosco, and June) to bring down a corrupt businesswoman named Veronika Vanderberg and expose her company for wrongdoing.
As someone who has been a fan of the series since the beginning, it was truly great to see the Four Horseman on the big screen once more. The dynamic between Jesse Eisenberg as Atlas, Woody Harrelson as Merritt, Isla Fisher as Henley, and Dave Franco as Jack is absolutely fantastic and on full display in this movie. And, I was very happy to see some other fav favorites return with Morgan Freeman as Thaddeus Bradley, and a surprise return of Lizzy Caplan as Lula May, who joined the Horsemen in the second movie of the Now You See Me franchise. And seeing just how well both Henley and Lula get along in this movie was just a treat.
As far as the newcomers go, the trio of Dominic Sessa as Bosco, Ariana Greenblatt as June, and Justice Smith as Charlie were fantastic. The back-and-forth dynamic between Bosco and Atlas was a ton of fun, and a good source of mild humor throughout the film. And seeing how Charlie and June were massive fans of the Horsemen was fantastic, and how they interact with them is genuinely terrific.
However, I do think that the one element that may make or break the movie for some is Rosamund Pike as Veronika Vanderberg. As opposed to the likes of Michael Caine as Arthur Tressler or Daniel Radcliffe as Walter Mabry, Rosamund Pike just comes off as too much of a threat. She shows almost no remorse for her actions, and isn't above just killing someone to get what she wants. However, what saves her for me by the end is a twist reveal connecting her to about one of our new cast members, but I don't want to give it away.
When it comes to the Now You See Me franchise, it's all about the magic and illusions. And, the ones in this movie are all fantastic. From the house where the Horsemen reunite with Thaddeus, which is full of so many interesting rooms, to the opening magic show held by our new trio, to the final trick at the end that feels reminiscent of the London trick from Now You See Me 2, all of them work in this movie, and all are a lot of fun.
Overall, I had a lot of fun with this movie, and I definitely recommend checking it out. But, I am sure there is one question on everyone's mind: where was Mark Ruffalo as Dylan? Well, the movie does explain his absence, and I did appreciate the fact that they at least acknowledged a character that was of major importance in the original two movies. Will we see him in the next chapter? It's entirely possible, as Lionsgate is planning on making another Now You See Me with Ruben Fleischer returning to direct. And, after seeing what he brought to this chapter, I can definitely say I look forward to seeing another one.
Alright guys, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you in the next review.
