Review - F1 (2025)
Hey guys, Chuck here. F1 is the latest film from director Joseph Kosinski, who of course had a massive success a few years ago with Top Gun: Maverick. This movie, released by Warner Bros. and produced by Apple Original Films and Jerry Bruckheimer, stars Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Damson Idris, and Tobias Menzies.
So, the movie focuses on Sonny Hayes, who finds himself brought back into the world of racing in Formula One as part of the APXGP racing team, which includes young upstart named Joshua "Noah" Pierce, who is both Sonny's teammate and rival in racing Formula One.
So, I will admit that I am far less familiar with Formula One by comparison to my familiarity with NASCAR. But, I will say that I absolutely LOVED this movie. First off, this is easily Ehren Kruger's best screenwriting work, and the fact that he co-developed the story with director Joseph Kosinski is absolutely fantastic. And, once more, Joseph Kosinski has delivered an absolutely fantastic and entertaining film that is complimented by gorgeous cinematography by Claudio Miranda.
The racing sequences in this movie are an absolute adrenaline rush. Much like the jet flying scenes in Top Gun: Maverick, the Formula One racing scenes in F1 are framed in such a way that, when combined with the sound mixing, makes the viewer genuinely feel the speed of the cars as the blast their way down the track. And, much like how the directing of Joseph Kosinski was complimented by the cinematography by Claudio Miranda, the racing scenes are complimented by another brilliant music score by Hans Zimmer.
But, it's the performances that, at the end of the day, and the performances are absolutely fantastic. Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes is absolutely fantastic, and is made incredibly memorable due to Brad Pitt's natural charm and charisma. Javier Bardem as Ruben, similarly, is fantastic and brought to life with the brilliance of Javier Bardem's acting talent. Both Damson Idris as Joshua Pierce and Kerry Condon as Kate McKenna are both genuinely brilliant as two forces that challenge Sonny in a very compelling manner. And, Tobias Menzies as Peter Banning was certainly interesting as a corporate tool who has an agenda of his own. And, I would be remiss is I didn't mention Shea Whigham's appearance as Chip Hart, who has a brief but memorable appearance early in the movie.
Overall, this is easily one of the best movies I've seen this year, and catches Sinners as one of the best movies so far in 2025. I can't recommend this movie enough, especially of you enjoy movies with fast cars and brilliant technicals. If you enjoyed what Joseph Kosinski did with Top Gun: Maverick, then F1 is a must-see, and I eagerly await the next collaboration between Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Alright guys, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you in the next review.
