My Thoughts on WWE Backlash (2025)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and yeah I know I said that after WrestleMania, I more than likely was taking a break from talking about WWE events until SummerSlam. But, I just had to talk about today's special live event from WWE: WWE Backlash, which was held in St. Louis.

So, the lineup of matches were pretty fun, and were as follows: John Cena faced Randy Orton for the Undisputed WWE Championship, Lyra Valkyria faced Becky Lynch for the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship, Jacob Fatu faced LA Knight, Damian Priest, and Drew McIntyre in a Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE United States Championship, Dominik Mysterio faced Penta for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, and Pat McAfee faced Gunther in a one-on-one match.

On commentary for most of the night were both Michael Cole and Wade Barrett, and they both did a really good job. Although, Wade did have to call a lot of the McAfee vs. Gunther match alone, as Cole found himself at ringside halfway into the match. Other than that, I enjoyed Cole and Barrett on commentary, and both called the matches really well.

As for the match results, there were as follows: the United States title match was a pretty epic battle that included appearances by Solo Sikoa and Jeff Cobb, but Jacob Fatu would retain the title by defeating LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, and Damian Priest. The Women's Intercontinental Championship match was pretty neck-and-neck, but Lyra Valkyria defeated Becky Lynch to retain the title. The Intercontinental Championship match was a complete joke due to interference from Finn Balor, JD McDonough, Carlito, and El Grande Americano, but Dominik Mysterio still retained the title against Penta. Pat McAfee put up one hell of a fight, but Gunther was ultimately victorious in the end. And, finally, John Cena's reign as Undisputed WWE Champion continues after an absolutely brutal and grueling match between Cena and Orton, in what was another incredible matchup in the storied rivalry between two phenomenal wrestlers.

Okay, so while not as massive an event as something like Royal Rumble or WrestleMania, Backlash was still a fairly entertaining event by WWE. I enjoyed pretty much every match, and was on the edge of my seat during the main event. But, I did roll my eyes a bit when R-Truth showed up to protect Cena. Overall, this was a decent event that I had fun watching.

Alright guys, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you in the next review.
