My Thoughts on WWE Elimination Chamber (2025)
Hey guys, Chuck here, and it's been exactly one month since we began the road to WrestleMania. But, before the Showcase of Immortals kicks off in Las Vegas, there's one bump in that road in the form of a 26-foot high steel monstrosity known only as the Elimination Chamber. Yep, it's officially time to discuss this year's WWE Elimination Chamber.
So, to break down just what the hell the Elimination Chamber is, it's a massive steel structure, predominantly made of chains, that surrounds the wrestling ring, with elevated floors on each side of the ring, and four plexiglass pods set up at each of the four corners of the ring. The original design was circular, but the Chamber got a more angular redesign in 2016, with padding added to the floors. The Elimination Chamber match works as follows: six wrestlers participate in the match, with two wrestlers starting in the ring, and the other four being housed in the pods. At regularly timed intervals, one of the pods will open at random, unleashing another wrestler into the match, and this will continue until all four pods are open and all six wrestlers are in the match. The match itself is an Elimination match, where wrestlers are eliminated one at a time by either pinfall or submission, and the wrestler to eliminate their competition wins the match.
And, there were at least two Elimination Chamber matches, as well as a number of other matches tonight at Elimination Chamber. First, we had Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens one-on-one in an Unsanctioned Match (in other words, pinfall or submission counts anywhere, and there are no other rules), in which Kevin Owens was victorious after a genuinely brutal battle. We also saw Tiffany Stratton and Trish Stratus in tag team action against Nia Jax and Candace LeRae, with Tiffany Stratton and Trish Stratus emerging victorious.
With the two Elimination Chamber matches, we had the men's Elimination Chamber match, where the winner will go on to face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, and there was the women's Elimination Chamber match, where the winner will go on to face either Rhea Ripley or Iyo Sky. In the men's Elimination Chamber match, we saw John Cena, CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Logan Paul, Damian Priest, and Seth Rollins competing. And, in the women's Elimination Chamber match, we saw Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Bianca Belair, Bayley, Naomi, and Roxanne Perez competing. Tbe respective winners of the two Elimination Chamber matches were John Cena and Bianca Belair.
One major shock came when Jade Cargill, who was attacked and taken out of competition a while back, showed up and attacked Naomi, who stepped in to be tag team partners with Bianca Belair, whom Jade had been teaming with. Now, it was previously believed that Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez were the assailants that attacked Jade, but it seems that's not the case. Jade's attack on Naomi made her unable to compete, and thus was eliminated first. Yikes. What will this mean for Jade, Bianca, and Naomi? We'll have to see in the weeks to come, but I predict a possible match-up next month at WrestleMania 41. Another surprise return was Randy Orton, who had been put out of action by Kevin Owens, but came back to face Owens and knock the crap out of him. Yeah, I'm thinking these two are going to face-to-face against each other at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas as well.
The commentary trio of Michael Cole, Pat McAfee, and Wade Barrett were fantastic, once again. I did, admittedly, cringe when McAfee referred to a trash can as "Dirty Dom," as an obnoxious bit of shade-throwing towards Dominik Mysterio. But, overall, the commentary was really good, especially from Barrett and Cole.
The night ended with an in-ring face-to-face between The Rock and Cody Rhodes, with rapper Travis Scott entering the ring with The Rock. You see, The Rock wants Cody's "soul" and wants Cody to be "his Champion." Ultimately, The Rock gave Cody until tonight to think it over. And, well, we got the answer. Ultimately, Rhodes refused The Rock's offer, as he already "gave his soul" to the ring and the fans, and Rhodes proceeded to tell The Rock "Go fuck yourself!", much to my amazement that WWE did NOT censor him. Anyway, Cena then turned heel and attacked Rhodes, cementing his newfound allegiance to The Rock, and marking the first time Cena has been a heel since 2003.
Overall, WWE Elimination Chamber in Toronto was a blast. The matches were thrilling, and they did their job in setting up the match-ups we'll be seeing next month in Las Vegas at WrestleMania 41. But, it was the sheer brutality at the very end that left the most profound impact on me. And, I will say that Rhodes vs. Cena will be a marquee match to remember.
Alright guys, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you guys on Monday for my next review: Daredevil.
