Review - Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars (2014)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Well, last time I talked about the trilogy of Family Guy episodes that re-created and satirized Star Wars . Well, Disney would do something similar in 2014 with an hour-long special episode of their hit cartoon called Phineas and Ferb , which went under the title Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars .         Unlike the Family Guy trilogy, which merely recreated the stories of the three Star Wars movies with Family Guy characters, Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars  does re-tell the story of A New Hope in a manner more akin to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead , where the Phineas and Ferb  characters interact with the Star Wars characters and are part of a story that kinda runs parallel to the story of the movie A New Hope .          In this take on A New Hope , which the opening crawl (which includes narration by Jim Cummings) clarifies isn't canon, the Rebels send Perry the P...

Review - Family Guy: The Star Wars Trilogy (2007-2010)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Back in the pre-Disney days of Lucasfilm, spoofs and parodies of Star Wars were far more plentiful, with many fans producing their own Star Wars parodies online and elsewhere. One of those fans was none other than Seth MacFarlane, whose creative team at Family Guy had been producing cutaway gags for the show that satirized Star Wars . However, after years of such cutaway gags, the creative team decided to do an entire trio of episodes of Family Guy that essentially re-created the plots of the original Star Wars trilogy.           Airing on television, as well as being released on both DVD and Blu-ray, the Family Guy trilogy went under the following three titles: Blue Harvest  (which satirized A New Hope ), Something, Something, Something Dark Side (which satirized The Empire Strikes Back ), and It's a Trap!  (which satirized Return of the Jedi ).           What made thi...

Review - Studio DC: Almost Live (2008)

Hey guys, Chuck here. There was a weird time in the mid-2000's where, after a change in leadership at Disney in 2005, the company had no clue what to do with a certain I.P. they had acquired in 2004: The Muppets. Well before the highly successful 2011 film with Jason Segel and Amy Adams, Disney had done very little with the Muppets aside from television commercials and a pair of Disney Channel specials in 2008, both titled Studio DC: Almost Live .      The first Studio DC: Almost Live special aired on August 3rd, 2008, and was hosted by brothers Dylan and Cole Sprouse, who were joined by their The Suite Life of Zack & Cody co-stars Ashley Tisdale, Brenda Song, and Phill Lewis, as well as both Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus, and the Jonas Brothers. The special saw Dylan, Cole, Phill, Brenda, and Gonzo attend a meeting to discuss a Suite Life inspired sketch created by the Swedish Chef, but it doesn't make a ton of sense. So, they present a Suite L...

Review - 102 Dalmatians (2000)

Hey guys, Chuck here. It's no surprise that Disney's live-action remake of 101 Dalmatians , written and produced by John Hughes, was a massive hit for the studio, with massive praise going towards Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil. So, how does Disney capitalize on said success? With a sequel released in the year 2000, with only two of the stars from the first film returning, and no one from the creative team returning. This is 102 Dalmatians .        So, a few years have passed since Cruella de Vil was arrested for dognapping Dalmatian puppies, and she has been undergoing a radical new form of aversion therapy being conducted by a scientist named Dr. Ivan Pavlov. Apparently cured of her obsession with fur, the courts release Cruella, now preferring to go by Ella, on parole. But, with one condition: of she is ever caught dognapping again, she would go back to jail and all of her money would be donated to the local dog shelters in Westminster. And, I ...

Review - Wolf Man (2025)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and these are my thoughts on the new movie Wolf Man , produced by Universal and Blumhouse, directed by Leigh Whannell, and starring Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, and Sam Jaeger.        The movie tells the story of a man named Blake Lovell, who is traveling with his wife and daughter from their home in San Francisco to his childhood home in Oregon. The night they arrive, Blake is scratched by a wolf-like monster, triggering a grotesque transformation in him that could pose a threat to himself and his family.         Now, to me, the family aspect between Blake, his wife Charlotte, and their daughter Ginger, is the strongest point of the movie. Seeing how Blake is a loving spouse and parent is genuinely heartwarming, and makes his inevitable transformation into a monster all the more heartbreaking, and Christopher Abbott portrays both the genuine love he has for his family and t...

Review - Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (2024)

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew . Now, I don't think that it's hyperbolic to say this, but 2024 was a thoroughly rough year to be a Star Wars fan, especially with the insane amount of divisiveness that surrounded the streaming series The Acolyte . But, I am happy to report that, unlike that abject failure of a Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew was absolutely fantastic, and was thoroughly entertaining.           Created by Christopher Ford and Jon Watts, the latter of whom directed the most recent trilogy of Spider-Man films by Marvel Studios and Sony, Skeleton Crew is set in the same part of the Star Wars timeline as such titles as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka . The series itself follows a group of four kids on a secluded planet called At Attin. One night, they come across what they initially believe to be a Jedi temple, but is actually a starship. The ship, which contains a droid called SM-33, travels to an outpost, where no on...

Review - The Bourne Legacy (2012)

Hey guys, Chuck here. After the release of The Bourne Ultimatum , Universal was looking for ways to keep the Bourne series going. However, Paul Greengrass had little interest in returning after giving a pretty satisfying ending to Jason's journey in The Bourne Ultimatum , and Matt Damon had no desire to return without Paul Greengrass in the director's chair. So, Universal decided to make a spin-off film telling something of a side story running parallel to the events of The Bourne Ultimatum  with the 2012 Tony Gilroy film The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac, and Donna Murphy, with appearances by Scott Glenn, Albert Finney, David Strathairn, Paddy Considine, and Joan Allen.         So, the movie establishes that the U.S. Department of Defense has been running an experimental program called Operation Outcome, wherein their agents are tasked with carrying out similar ops as ...

Review - Creature Commandos (2024)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Creature Commandos is the new animated series from DC Studios, and is the first title released for the  DC Universe  franchise from James Gunn, who created and wrote the series.          The series is centered on a team known as Task Force M, also known as the Creature Commandos, who were established by Amanda Waller after the U.S. Congress banned the use of human prisoners for black ops missions as was showcased with Task Force X aka the Suicide Squad. The roster of monsters and non-human entities that compose the Creature Commandos are as follows: the amphibious Nina Mazursky, the radioactive Dr. Phosphorus, the World War II era automaton G.I. Robot, the enigmatic Bride of Frankenstein, and the wily Weasel, who was recaptured from the Corto Maltese after Task Force X defeated Starro the Conqueror. And hand picked to lead the Creature Commandos is General Rick Flag Sr., whose son was killed in Corto Ma...

Review - Hook (1991)

Hey guys, Chuck here. One of my personal favorite films based on the story of Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie is the 1991 Steven Spielberg film Hook .          The movie opens with Peter Banning, a workaholic lawyer living in America with his wife, Moira, and their two children, Jack and Maggie. Unfortunately, while Peter manages to attend Maggie's school play, which is a production of Peter Pan, he misses out on Jack's very important baseball game. Ouch. Anyway, the Banning family is heading from America to London, where they will be visiting Moira's grandmother, Wendy. Also residing in Wendy's house is an old man named Tootles, who is looking for his lost marbles, and Liza, who is the housekeeper.          Peter and Moira take Wendy to a dedication banquet, where Wendy is being honored for her work with orphans such as Peter, while Maggie and Jack are left behind. While Peter, Moira, and Wendy are out, a mys...
