12 Reviews of Christmas - A Nonsense Christmas (2024)
Hey guys, Chuck here. A Nonsense Christmas is a brand new Christmas special, currently streaming on Netflix, and stars Sabrina Carpenter, along with other celebrity stars like Shania Twain, Tyla, and Chappell Roan.
So, A Nonsense Christmas is very much your typical Christmas special, filmed in a studio with a live audience. And, as Sabrina Carpenter says it, it's a "musical comedy holiday special." So, it's got lots of funny humor, holiday jingles, and everything that one would associate with the holiday season. And, I would be lying if I said that it wasn't a lot of fun. Because, honestly, this particular Christmas special was probably one of the most fun straight-up Christmas specials since Pentatonix: Around the World for the Holidays from a couple years ago.
Right off the bat, you can tell that Sabrina Carpenter has a lot of fun hosting this special. And, she gets into a good amount of her family Christmas traditions, as well as what she loved most about Christmas growing up. And, of course, her singing of Christmas songs, both new and familiar, was excellent. The special also, in my opinion, balanced the comedy skits and musical performances really well. For instance, the special has a comedy skit with Sabrina playing a girl named Deb, whose friends try to convince her that her new boyfriend is Santa Claus, and the skit ends with Mrs. Claus showing up, and she is portrayed by Shania Twain. This skit is immediately followed by a musical duet between Sabrina and Shania Twain, who perform the holiday jazz jingle "Santa Baby." Another humorous skit sees Sabrina, Cara Delevingne, and Quinta Brunson, as the Spirits of Ghosted Past, Present, and Future, and the three work to show a guy named Ted Scrooge, played by Nico Hiraga, that it's not okay to ghost someone. Yeah, that's actually pretty funny. And, of course, it's followed by another music duet, with this one being in the form of Sabrina and Chappell Roan singing "Last Christmas."
I will say that A Nonsense Christmas is a fun-filled holiday special in the tradition of those classic television specials that pop up around the holiday season. The big draw, though, is really Sabrina Carpenter herself, as she gives a thoroughly multi-talented performance that combined her musical chops with her comedic chops. Add to that the many guests like Cara Delevingne, Shania Twain, Tyla, and so forth, not to mention seeing Sean Austin as Santa Claus, and you have a really fun, entertaining holiday special. I'm giving A Nonsense Christmas a rating of 4.85/5.
