Ranking My Favorite New Series of 2023

Hey guys, Chuck here, and it's the end of the year. Which means, it's time to rank all of my favorite new releases of 2023. Specifically, my favorite new streaming television series of the year. Now, to qualify, a series had to have made its debut in 2023, and cannot be a second season of a series released previously. So, with that in mind, let's take a look at my favorite new series of 2023.

#8 - Stars on Mars: this space-themed Fox reality competition series was a ton of fun, with a eclectic cast of celebrities, and the phenomenal William Shatner as host.

#7 - Ahsoka: Dave Filoni's Star Wars series worked as a great live-action continuation of the animated series Star Wars Rebels, with fantastic performances by the likes of Rosario Dawson, Lars Mikkelsen, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

#6 - Scott Pilgrim Takes Off: the Netflix anime based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novels was a ton of fun, and a great subversion from the source material, supported by the return of the cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

#5 - History of the World, Part II: this Hulu sketch comedy has all the hallmarks of what makes me love Mel Brooks. Brooks, along with Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, and Ike Barinholtz, delivered a hilarious follow-up to the film History of the World, Part I.

#4 - Gen V: this spin-off of The Boys had great characters with unique powers, and was thoroughly enjoyable, and has me all the more excited for the upcoming fourth season of The Boys.

#3 - That '90s Show: Netflix's return to Point Place was a lot of fun, seriously funny, and had a lot of nostalgic callbacks to the year 1995. Really looking forward to seeing the next season.

#2 - One Piece: the live-action adaptation of the beloved anime series is one of the most beloved series of the year, and it did absolutely everything right. The cast was excellent, the story well executed, and it really felt like the production team, which includes franchise creator Eiichiro Oda, really went above and beyond to deliver a quality product for the fans. Can't wait for the next season.

#1 - Twisted Metal: based on the PlayStation game franchise, this Peacock original series has great characters, stellar humor, and kickass car combat. Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz were fantastic leads, and Will Arnett and Samoa Joe gave a fantastic performance as Sweet Tooth. Definitely looking forward to seeing season two.

And, there you have it. My favorite new series of 2023 ranked from least favorite to absolute favorite. There were quite a few I enjoyed, and many still to come in 2024 that I'm looking forward to.

Well guys, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you guys next time when I count down my Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2023.
