My Thoughts on the 2023 Kids' Choice Awards

Hey guys, Chuck here, and while John Campea and his crew are gearing up for the Oscars next Sunday, I had much more fun watching the 2023 Kids' Choice Awards on Nickelodeon. The show was this evening and there were lots of blimps, lots of laughs, and, of course, lots of slime. Yep, this was a fun night, so let's talk about it.

Okay, so a lot of great movies were up for awards tonight, with the likes of Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Adam, Jurassic World Dominion, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Top Gun: Maverick all up for the award for Favorite Movie. And who won the orange blimp? Well, the big winner was Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Yep, Sonic took home the blimp for Favorite Movie, which made me very happy. The Favorite Animated Movie winner was Minions: The Rise of Gru. Dwayne Johnson won two awards for Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Male Voice in an Animated Movie. Other actors who won include Millie Bobby Brown and Selena Gomez for Enola Holmes 2 and Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, respectively.

Television was also honored tonight, as shows like SpongeBob, MasterChef JuniorThe Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, and Wednesday won orange blimps. Actors like Joshua Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, Finn Wolfhard, and Jenna Ortega also took home awards for Television Acting.

Music stars, including the likes of Dove Cameron, Bella Poarch, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa, and BTS all took home orange blimps. Heck, Taylor Swift took home two, one for Favorite Female Artist and one for Favorite Album, as did Harry Styles for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Global Music Star.

Other awards, of course, included MrBeast winning Favorite Male Creator, Charli D'Amelio winning Favorite Female Creator, LeBron James for Favorite Male Sports Star, Serena Williams for Favorite Female Sports Star, Ninja Kidz TV for Favorite Social Media Family, Olivia Benson Swift for Favorite Celebrity Pet, Minecraft for Favorite Video Game, and Harry Potter for Favorite Book.

Adam Sandler was honored tonight as King of Comedy. And, while I'm not the biggest fan of Adam Sandler, I have enjoyed his movies from time to time, with Mr. Deeds probably being my favorite Adam Sandler movie. Optimus Prime from the Transformers was also honored tonight with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Honestly, there aren't many fictional characters that deserve Lifetime Achievement Awards, but Optimus Prime has entertained multiple generations, and he definitely deserves it. But, then again, so do Superman and Batman.

And, what's really neat is we had some sneak peek at some upcoming movies, including an exclusive clip from the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, first looks at both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Monster High 2, and so forth, were definitely really neat.

But, of course, it's not the Kids' Choice Awards without celebrities getting slimed, a lot of them did. Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Bebe Rexha, Dwayne Johnson (by his own daughters), Adam Sandler, Melissa McCarthy (in a dunk tank full of slime. Nice touch), the four lead stars of the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and so forth. And, I really loved seeing WWE Superstars Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, Montez Ford, Xavier Woods, and Big E compete in a tug of war with a  WWE fan (who was set up with tickets for the upcoming WrestleMania). That was really cool. Live music performances by Bebe Rexha, Young Dylan, and Lil' Baby were definitely great. Honestly, better performances than Rihanna at the Super Bowl, am I right? Heh, I kid, I kid.

Overall, this year's Kids' Choice Awards were tons of fun. I laughed, I cheered, and I had a blast when the nominees I wanted to see win took home the orange blimps. Kudos to hosts Nate Burleson and Charli D'Amelio for doing such a great job. I absolutely loved this year's Kids' Choice Awards, and I'm glad I watched it. Anyway guys, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you guys on Monday with my review of the 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum.
