Review - Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

Hey guys, Chuck here. The Japanese light novel All You Need is Kill  is widely considered one of the more unique light novel stories, as it follows a soldier in an endless war against an alien invasion force, only to discover that he's gained the ability to reset the day when he dies, and he and others use this ability to turn the tide in the war. And, with a new anime film adaptation of All You Need is Kill  set for release soon, I thought it would be an interesting idea to take a look at the novel's 2014 live-action adaptation: Edge of Tomorrow , directed by Doug Liman and starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Noah Taylor, Bill Paxton, and Brendan Gleeson.         So, in the near future, an alien race known as the Mimics arrive on Earth, landing in Europe, and begin their invasion. A few years later, the world sets up the United Defense Force, a joint military coalition made up of multiple countries military forces, to combat the Mim...

Review - Primate (2026)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Primate is a new horror movie from director Johannes Roberts, who is predominantly known for directing other horror films like 47 Meters Down  and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City .         The movie centers on Lucy, who is a college girl returning to her family home in Hawaii for the first time since her mother's passing. And, she is joined by her friends Kate and Hannah, along with Nick. Also at the house, along with Lucy's father, Adam, and younger sister, Erin, is also Ben, a chimpanzee that Lucy's mother had adopted as part of a research project. Unfortunately, after an encounter with a mongoose, Ben contracted rabies, and when Adam is gone, goes insane and violence, leaving those still at the house in grave danger.         So, where do I start? Well, I will say that the violence and gore in Primate  is really well done. Just seeing so much violence and death caused b...

Review - The Love Bug (1968)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Disney's The Love Bug  is an all-time classic, and was a movie that I loved watching regularly as a kid. The movie, directed by Robert Stevenson and written by Bill Walsh and Don DaGradi, stars the likes of Dean Jones, Michele Lee, Buddy Hackett, David Tomlinson, and Benson Fong.         The movie, which opens with archived footage of the demolition derby scene from Fireball 500 , centers on San Francisco based racecar driver Jim Douglas, who ran out of cars to race, and wound up driving in demolition derbies. After a derby, Jim returns home to a former firehouse, where his housemate is mechanic and automotive artist Tennessee Steinmetz. After conversing with Tennessee, Jim heads downtown and stops by a European Import car dealership owned by Peter Thorndyke, and he meets both Thorndyke and his aides Carole Bennett and Havershaw. It's also here where Jim comes across a 1963 Volkswagen Bug, which had just been retur...

Happy New Year, guys. Chuck here, and while I won't deny that the first half of the decade has been rough, with a global health pandemic in 2020, a major labor strike between two massive Hollywood unions in 2023, and an ever-shifting sociopolitical climate affecting the connection between movie studios and the audience, I have genuinely high hopes for 2026. And, while 2025 was pretty rough on the whole, 2026 seems to have plenty of promise in terms of major box office releases. So, as has become tradition around here, it's time to count down my Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2026 .        But first, some honorable mentions: Mortal Kombat II , the deadly tournament arrives in this highly anticipated sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat  reboot, Clayface , DC Studios brings to life the terrifying story of Matt Hagen, an actor in Gotham who becomes a being made of clay, Moana , Disney's latest live-action remake will follow Moana's journey to jo...
