Review - Pixels (2015)

Hey guys, Chuck here. In 2010, a French writer and director named Patrick Jean created a critically acclaimed short film titled Pixels , which depicted 1980's arcade game characters attacking the island of Manhattan in a manner similar to one depicted in the Futurama  episode "Anthology of Interest II." Upon the release of the short film, a bidding war started in Hollywood to adapt the short film to feature length. Unfortunately, for all of us, the studio that won the rights to bring Pixels  to the big screen was Happy Madison Productions.         Released in 2015, the feature film version of Pixels  was released by Sony Pictures, directed by Chris Columbus, and stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Sean Bean, Brian Cox, and Dan Aykroyd.         The movie opens in 1982, where we meet best friends Sam Brenner and Will Cooper, who head to their hometown arcad...

Review - The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and we're taking a look at Marvel Studios' new film The Fantastic Four: First Steps ,. directed by Matt Shakman, and starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bacharach, Julia Garner, and Ralph Ineson.        Set on the retro futuristic Earth-828 in the year 1964, the superhero team known as the Fantastic Four are forced to contend with a dangerous cosmic villain known as Galactus. And, to complicate matters, Susan Storm and Reed Richards find themselves juggling saving the world with having to care for their newborn son Franklin, who is himself a target of Galactus.        Okay, so all cards on the table, I have never been truly satisfied with any of the previous cinematic adaptations of the Fantastic Four . The two movies from director Tim Story were certainly fun, and had their moments, but were utter disappointments. As for 2015's Josh Trank directed Fant4stic , the less said about...

Review - Oblivion (2013)

Hey guys, Chuck here. And, as much as we all loved 2022's Top Gun: Maverick , it might surprise many to know that that film was actually the second collaboration between director Joseph Kosinski and actor Tom Cruise. Their first collaboration came in the form of the 2013 Joseph Kosinski directed sci-fi film Oblivion , released by Universal Pictures, produced by Chernin Entertainment, and based on Kosinski's own unpublished graphic novel of the same name. The movie stars Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Zoë Bell, Melissa Leo, and Morgan Freeman.        The movie establishes that, some time in the near future, the Earth was attacked by an alien force known as Scavengers, or Scavs for short. The Scavs destroyed the Moon, causing natural disasters worldwide, and forced humanity to utilize its nuclear arsenal to end the threat. So, although humanity won the war, they lost the Earth with most of the planet be...

Review - Back to the Future (1985-1990)

Hey guys, Chuck here. And, while the Universal Pictures classic Jaws is celebrating its fifty-year anniversary this year, another staple of Universal Pictures is celebrating its forty-year anniversary: Back to the Future . So, to commemorate this, I thought it would be pretty cool to discuss the entire trilogy of Back to the Future  movies, directed by Robert Zemeckis, and starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Thomas F. Wilson, Lea Thompson, and James Tolkan, with additional cast members including Claudia Wells, Crispin Glover, Billy Zane, Marc McClure, Elisabeth Shue, Flea, and Mary Steenburgen.        So, the original Back to the Future , released in 1985, introduces is to teenager Marty McFly, who lives with his family, parents George and Lorraine and siblings Dave and Linda, in the town of Hill Valley, California, and enjoys three things: playing guitar, skateboarding, and spending time with his girlfriend, Jennifer Parker. M...

Review - Galaxy Quest (1999)

Hey guys, Chuck here. And in the world of sci-fi parody films, there are two worthy of recognition: Mel Brooks' Spaceballs , which we've discussed previously, and the 1999 comedy Galaxy Quest . And, today, we're taking a look at the latter of the two. Directed by Dean Parisot, Galaxy Quest was a sci-fi parody films that satirized the Star Trek franchise, as well as the massive fandom surrounding Star Trek . Galaxy Quest stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico Colantoni, Justin Long, Jed Rees, Missi Pyle, Rainn Wilson, Patrick Breen, and Robin Sachs.         So, the movie centers on the cast of a short-lived '80s sci-fi television series called Galaxy Quest , and how their careers have stalled since the show was cancelled, limiting them to appearances at fan conventions and trivial promotional appearances. While Jason Nesmith, who portrayed Commander Taggart on the show, is mo...

My Thoughts on WWE Evolution (2025)

Hey guys, Chuck here. And, yesterday saw the WWE host a premium event called WWE Evolution . This was the second ever WWE Evolution event since the original in 2018, and the thing that makes it stand out from most other premium events for the WWE is that WWE Evolution consists entirely of women's matches. And, yes, this meant that almost EVERY WWE Women's title was on the line.           Kicking off the event was a Triple-threat match for the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship between Becky Lynch, Lyra Valkyria, and Bayley, which saw Becky Lynch retain her title. But, I do gotta give a shout-out to both Lyra Valkyria and Bayley for putting on one hell of a match. Next up was a one-on-one match for the NXT Women's Championship between Jacy Jayne and Jordynne Grace, which saw Jacy Jayne, who thoroughly impressed me in the match, retain her title. Next up was a big one. A Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Women's Tag Team Champio...

Review - Superman (2025)

Alright guys, here we go. My number one most anticipated movie of 2025, Superman , is finally here. Produced by DC Studios as the first film of the new DC Universe franchise, Superman is written and directed by James Gunn, and stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicolas Hoult, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, Anthony Carrigan, and Nathan Fillion.        Now, one major thing to note about this particular Superman movie is that is doesn't retell the origins of Superman, as this is a version of Superman who's been active for three years. While we do  some text at the beginning to set up events that most fans already know, James Gunn was smart enough to take into account how much the origin of Superman has been told and retold on screen, and opted to avoid repeating it again. And, I genuinely appreciate that, as it would be thoroughly tedious to have to revisit something that is universally known....

Retrospective - Twisted Metal (1995-2012)

Hey guys, Chuck here. And, with the second season of Twisted Metal on the horizon, it's time to talk about the game series that the streaming series is based on. Created by Scott Campbell and David Jaffe, the Twisted Metal game series has been through its share of ups and downs, having spanned multiple console generations with games on the original PlayStation, the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation Portable, and the PlayStation 3.        So, the concept of the Twisted Metal games is pretty straightforward. Once a year, an underground figure named Calypso holds a demolition derby style tournament. The prize? The winning driver gets their greatest wish granted. The goal? They must drive and eliminate the competition through use of missiles, machine guns, and all manner of weapons. The cost of losing? Death.         The series is pretty well known for its colorful roster of drivers, with such vehicles as Roadkill, Sweet Tooth, ...

Review - Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and this is my review of the new movie Jurassic World Rebirth, which is the seventh entry in Universal Pictures ' long-running Jurassic Park series. Eh-- wait a minute. They've made SEVEN OF THESE MOVIES?!?!?!?!?         Anyway, Jurassic World Rebirth was directed by Godzilla and Rogue One director Gareth Edwards, from a screenplay by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, and stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein.         Set five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion , the movie tells of how the Earth's climate has proven to be largely inhospitable to dinosaurs outside of tropical locations. The story focuses on a team, which includes covert operative Zora Bennett paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, and team leader Duncan Kincaid, that is sent to an island in the Atlantic, Ile...
