Review - Ted (2024)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Well, last time, we took a look at the Ted movies, which were written and directed by Seth MacFarlane. Today, we're taking a look at the new Peacock streaming series Ted, which is a prequel to the main events of the two Ted movies. The series sees Seth MacFarlane return as the voice of Ted, and also stars Max Burkholder, Alanna Ubach, Scott Grimes, and Giorgia Whigham.         The series is set in the year 1993, and Ted's celebrity status is pretty much non-existent, thus he's living at the Bennett household with his best friend John, John's parents Matty and Susan, and John's cousin Blaire. The series, which runs for a total of seven episodes, is filled with jokes, gags, and a fantastic blend of hilarious and heartwarming moments. One thing I appreciate is how the opening theme is the song "Everybody Needs a Best Friend" by Norah Jones, which was written for the original movie and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Origina

Review - Ted (2012) & Ted 2 (2015)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Let's talk about Seth MacFarlane. An animator for years, Seth hit it really big when he created the animated comedy series Family Guy, as well as other animated comedy series like American Dad and the short lived Family Guy spin-off The Cleveland Show . But, in 2012, Seth headed into directing live-action projects with the comedy film Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Joel McHale, Patrick Warburton, Sam Jones, Jessica Barth, Giovanni Ribisi, and Seth MacFarlane himself as Ted.          The movie opens in 1985, when a boy named John Bennett gets a Christmas gift of a teddy bear he calls Teddy, or Ted for short. That night, John wishes on a Christmas star for Ted to be real. The next morning, Ted is alive, walking and talking for himself. Because of this, Ted is an overnight celebrity, appearing on talk shows like The Tonight Show w/ Johnny Carson . However, after all of the appearances, Ted eventually falls from grace, and the world no longer giv

Review - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (2023)

Hey guys, Chuck here back with another game review. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, released on the Nintendo Switch, is the latest entry in Nintendo's long-running franchise The Legend of Zelda, and serves as a sequel to the 2017 Zelda game Breath of the Wild.           So, the game opens with Link and Zelda traversing through the cavernous ruins deep beneath Hyrule Castle. Some time has passed since the Great Calamity was resolved, and Hyrule has begun to heal itself. Unfortunately, people have been falling ill from a dangerous new substance called Gloom, which has been emitting from deep beneath Hyrule Castle, forcing Link and Zelda to investigate. In the ruins, Zelda discovers hieroglyphics and carvings related to the Zonai, an ancient race that descended from the skies above Hyrule long ago, and a conflict between Ancient Hylians, led by a Zonai, against a deadly warrior called the Demon King. Upon discovering another chamber, Zelda and Link come upon a mu

Review - Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie (2004)

Hey guys, Chuck here. In a manner similar to Pokémon, a 4Kids dub of a Japanese anime came along and took the youth of America by storm, and helping to popularize a tie-in trading card game, with many cards in the game being featured in the anime. That anime is, of course, Yu-Gi-Oh! . And, much like the Pokémon  movies, Warner Bros. and 4Kids also had a Yu-Gi-Oh!  movie out there, and of course it got a big screen release. This is my review of the 2004 film Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light.          The movie opens with the backstory of the series, in that in the times of Ancient Egypt, there were a series of Shadow Games, which were eventually sealed away in the seven Millennium Items by a young Pharaoh. 500 years later, and a kid named Yugi Mutou solves the Millennium Puzzle, and begins to share his body with the spirit of the Pharaoh, also known as Yami Yugi. However, it's also revealed that when the Millennium Puzzle was solved, not only was the Pharaoh awakened,

Review - Snow Day (2000)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and since it's still Winter time, I'm taking a look at the Paramount/Nickelodeon comedy from the year 2000: Snow Day.  Directed by Chris Koch and written by Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi, Snow Day stars Mark Webber, Zena Grey, Josh Peck, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Schuyler Fisk, Jean Smart, Chris Elliott, and Chevy Chase.          The movie is set in the town of Syracuse, New York, which is going through the warmest winter on record. That is, until an overnight snowfall descends, meaning that all of the schools are closed for a Snow Day. And, this is where the movie diverges into four separate stories involving the members of the Brandston family: parents Tom and Laura, and kids Hal, Natalie, and Randy.          Laura is looking to leave for work, but finds herself snowed in, forcing her to stay at home with her youngest son, Randy. And, while she attempts to work remotely from home, Randy continues to distract her, eventually leading to her giving up on

Review - Home Alone 3 (1997)

Hey guys, Chuck here. In 1997, writer/producer John Hughes, who wrote the original two Home Alone movies with Macaulay Culkin, Daniel Stern, and Joe Pesci, returned with a third film in the Home Alone series. The only film not set around the Christmas holiday, Home Alone 3 starred Alex D. Linz, Olek Krupa, Haviland Morris, Rya Kihlstedt, Lenny Von Dohlen, David Thornton, Kevin Kilner, Christopher Curry, Marian Seldes, and Scarlett Johansson, and was directed by Raja Gosnell, who was the editor of the final two Home Alone movies.          The movie introduces is to our main villains, which are a quartet of international criminals: Peter Beaupre, Alice Ribbons, Burton Jernigan, and Earl Unger. The four are hired by a terrorist organization to collect a specially designed missile chips capable of cloaking any missile from detection. The chips collected from an American military contractor in Silicon Valley, and place the chip inside of a remote control car, as a means of slipping

Review - Night at the Museum (2006-2014)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and after reviewing Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon, I needed something of a pallette cleanser. And, thus, I'm taking a look at the Night at the Museum trilogy, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ben Stiller, Rami Malek, Mizuo Peck, Ricky Gervais, Patrick Gallagher, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, and Robin Williams, with additional cast members throughout the series including the likes of Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Carla Gugino, Bill Cobbs, Charlie Murphy, Jake Cherry, Amy Adams, Bill Hader, Hank Azaria, Jon Bernthal, Christopher Guest, the Jonas Brothers, Dan Stevens, Skyler Gisondo, Rebel Wilson, and Ben Kingsley.          So, the first Night at the Museum was released in 2006, and focuses on struggling entrepreneur Larry Daley, who ends up getting a job as the new overnight security guard at the Museum of Natural History, taking over for the older guards Cecil, Reginald, and Gus. Larry also befriends one of the daytime staff, Rebecca, and has a few r

Review - Rebel Moon - Part 1: A Child of Fire (2023)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Well, y'know when general viewers ask for original ideas, especially in the genre of sci-fi? Well, I don't think that this is what most people had in mind. Rebel Moon is a new sci-fi franchise co-written and directed by Zack Snyder, and the first film of the series, Rebel Moon - Part 1: A Child of Fire , was released on Netflix in December of 2023. The movie stars Sofia Boutella Michiel Huisman, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Honsou, Ed Skrein, Ray Fisher, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, and the voice of Anthony Hopkins.           So, in the universe of Rebel Moon, the galaxy is under the oppressive thumb of Motherworld, whose rule is cemented by the military known as Imperium. The regent of Motherworld, a man named Balisarius, seized control after the King, Queen, and Princess were all assassinated on the day of the Princess' coronation.          Some years later, we meet Kora, a former soldier of Imperium who now lives as a farmer on Veldt, which is visited b

Review - The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and in 2016, Universal released a follow-up to the successful 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman with The Huntsman: Winter's War . Directed this time by Cedric Nicholas-Troyan, this movie sees the returns of Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, and Nick Frost, and sees new additions like Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, Rob Brydon, Sheridan Smith, Alexandra Roach, Sope Dirisu, and Sophie Cookson.        So, the movie serves as both prequel and sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman,  in that we learn the backstory of a number of characters from the original movie. You see, in addition to her brother Finn, Evil Queen Ravenna also had a younger sister, Freya, who had fallen in love with a man and given birth to a daughter, who was killed by the child's father. This act turned Freya's heart into ice, and awakened her fearsome ice magic. Taking the moniker of the Ice Queen, Freya made a new home for herself in a frigid palace of ice in

Review - Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)

Hey guys, Chuck here. And, you know what I find puzzling? How is it that we're in the year 2024, and the Grimm's fairy tale of Snow White is a topic of controversy?           Well, not the original Grimm's fairy tale, specifically, but a live-action remake that isn't due for release until March 2025. Yeah, evidently, Disney's 2025 Snow White, set to star Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen has gotten a ton of flak from a circle of YouTubers for Rachel's comments about how screenwriters Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson have crafted an interesting new take on the classic tale, to the point that far-right political commentary site The Daily Wire announced that, for their family-friendly platform Bentkey, they are producing a Snow White movie starring YouTuber Brett Cooper in the title role.            Now, I'm not going to go to go and say which one I think will be better. Although, I am personally more willing to see the

Review - Ghostbusters II (1989)

Happy New Year, everyone. Chuck here, and to ring in the year 2024, I would like to take a look at the 1989 comedy Ghostbusters II.  Directed by Ivan Reitman, this movie sees the returns of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts, and Ernie Hudson, along with such newcomers as Kurt Fuller and Peter MacNicol.         The movie is set five years after the original Ghostbusters, and a lot has happened. First, a string of lawsuits put the Ghostbusters out of business, Ray is now running a bookshop, Egon is working in a research lab, Venkman is hosting a television series called "World of the Psychic," and Ray and Winston make occasional party appearances for a quick buck. Dana Barrett, meanwhile, is a single mother of an infant son named Oscar,.whose buggy ends up getting away from her after it runs through a puddle of pink slime. Concerned, Dana goes to Egon for help, and he brings both Ray and Venkman in on the case.
