12 Reviews of Christmas - Jeff Dunham's Scrooged-Up Holiday Special (2024)
Hey guys, Chuck here. And it looks like 12 Reviews of Christmas has come full circle, as it was during the first edition of 12 Reviews of Christmas where I talked about Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special. So, today, let's take a look at Jeff's latest Yuletide comedy special: Jeff Dunham's Scrooged-Up Holiday Special, currently streaming on Amazon.
Filmed live at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, the special sees Jeff talking about the reason for hosting a Christmas special, and what Christmas means to him. As it turns out, Jeff got his first ventriloquist puppet for Christmas as a child, which led to his career in ventriloquism. As for the purpose of this particular Christmas special, Jeff reveals that his wife, Audrey, suggested that he and his many puppet characters film a new take on the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. But, who to cast in the roles? Well, to find out who would play whom, Jeff, of course, turns to "the little people in the boxes." First and foremost, Jeff brings out the old curmudgeon himself: Walter. Walter, of course, is dressed as Scrooge, and he mentions his favorite Christmas song is "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer." A lot of back-and-forth between Walter and Jeff goes on, with Jeff suggesting Walter could possibly portray Scrooge in the film, and there's some hilarious nods to Home Alone.
Bubba J is up next, and he's dressed up as the Ghost of Christmas Past. And, of course, Bubba J is acting like a drunken fool. There's some hilarious innuendos, and Bubba J mentions that puppets scare him, which is ironic. And of course, Jess suggests that in the film, Bubba J should be the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Bubba J references his childhood, Nick Cannon, and is pretty funny, except for when he references "a redneck in a white sheet." But, he makes a Back to the Future reference, which makes it all better. After Bubba J, it's time for Little Jeff, who is dressed up like Tiny Tim. Little Jeff makes several jokes to the clothes he's wearing, jokes about how he's "taller than Tim Cruise," and complains about the crutch glued to his hand. I will say that while Little Jeff was hilarious as a joke involving Peanut attempting ventriloquism, seeing Little Jeff without Peanut just seems off. But, Little Jeff does get excited about being involved in the film. But, I laughed my ass off as Little Jeff ruined several classic Christmas songs.
Taking on the role of the Ghost of Christmas Present is, of course, my favorite of Jeff's characters: Peanut. Peanut, of course, likes the prospect of being the Ghost of Christmas Present, but mixes up Christmas Present with being a ghost that gives Christmas presents. Speaking of presents, Peanut calls one of Jeff's staff, Marnell, on the stage with a present: a new piece of merch, and it's, of course, Peanut. I will say, however, that it looks a bit derpy, and the head comes off. But, seeing Peanut tell Jeff to make the doll talk was humorous, but Jeff doing a ridiculous voice for the doll by comparison to the actual Peanut voice was a bit odd. But, Jeff makes it funnier by saying "payback's a bitch," referencing Peanut's past bits involving Little Jeff.
Finishing things out is, of course, Achmed the Dead Terrorist. And, of course, he's the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. But, Achmed is wearing a Santa hat, and he sings a hilarious holiday jingle, as well as references to China, Trump, and TikTok. Unfortunately, Achmed falls apart, with his arms and ribcage falling off, with Jeff making a few jokes, but Achmed demanding to be put back together, and getting angry at the audience for laughing. But, of course Jeff puts Achmed back together, Achmed makes a "that's what she said" joke, and Jeff uses one of Achmed's arms to hypnotize him, but it doesn't work. But, once Achmed is reassembled, it's back to talking about A Christmas Carol, and a few jokes about accents, and Achmed is accidentally blown up by an explosive meant for Peanut.
Honestly, Jeff Dunham is always fun for a laugh. And, I loved that he decided to make another Christmas themed stand-up special, and have each of the guys be set up to be characters from A Christmas Carol. I had some of my favorites in this special, like Peanut and Achmed, and a couple I didn't care for like Bubba J and Little Jeff. But, for a hilarious holiday stand-up special, Jeff Dunham's Scrooged-Up Holiday Special is definitely one that's worth it. I give it a rating of 5/5. Log on to Amazon and check it out.
Alright guys, this is Chuck signing off, and 12 Reviews of Christmas continues tomorrow with A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter.
