Review - Justice League X RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen (2023)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Y'know, I love the DC Universe. And, I love anime. And, while the Rooster Teeth franchise RWBY isn't exactly an anime in the truest sense, it's still heavily inspired by anime, which is still pretty cool. So, to see Rooster Teeth team up with DC to cross over the Justice League with Team RWBY? Uh, yeah, that's awesome. Now, while they started with crossover comics, what I'm here to talk about today is the two-part animated movie released in 2023: Justice League X RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, directed by Kerry Shawcross, with Dustin Matthews and Yssa Badiola serving as co-directors for Part Two.

So, Part One sees the Justice League (Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, Vixen, Cyborg, and Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern) taken into a virtual recreation of the world of Remnant, which is the home world of the heroes of RWBY. And, things for the Justice League are very different. While much of them still retain their powers, Vixen is missing her necklace and has a fox tail, Green Lantern's ring is missing, both Wonder Woman and Superman's powers are more limited, Cyborg is unable to connect to local technology, and Batman has both bat wings and bat vision. On top of that, all seven of the Justice League appear as teenagers.

It's here where they meet both Team RWBY, which consists of the quartet of Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long, along with their allies Team JNPR, which consists of Jaune Arc, Nora Valkyrie, Pyrrah Nikos, and Lie Ren. So, the three teams of heroes team together to solve the mystery of what's happening in this virtual recreation of Remnant, what brought the Justice League to Remnant, and who is responsible. All the while, they must all work together to fend off monsters called Grimm. At the end of Part One, the Justice League return to their world, and both Team RWBY and Team JNPR exit the virtual Remnant and return to the real Remnant.

Part Two sees the Justice League back in the DC Universe, where Dinah Lance/Black Canary tells them of monsters attacking. Of course, the monsters in question are the Grimm from the world of Remnant, so the Justice League calls in Team RWBY, who jump from their world into the DC Universe, and all in superhero attire that fits in with the heroes of the DC Universe. Cool.

So, the Justice League and Team RWBY work together, and they learn that Dr. Arthur Watts, and enemy of Team RWBY, is in league with Kilg%re, an enemy of the Justice League. So, the race is on to stop Watts and Kilg%re, end the threat posed by the Grimm, and save the DC Universe. All the while, Team RWBY has to adjust to their new abilities, or lack thereof in the case of Weiss. But, with the day saved, the two teams of heroes say their goodbyes, and Team RWBY returns to Remnant, while the Justice League continues their fight in the DC Universe.

Okay, so, Justice League X RWBY is a fun crossover, combining a mix of talents from both DC and Rooster Teeth to create something that fans of DC and RWBY can appreciate, and fans of one can get introduced to the other in a way that is a ton of fun. And, the fact that Rooster Teeth animated both parts of this two-part movie, and designed each part to fit with either the RWBY universe or the DC Universe. Part One is designed to fit in the RWBY universe, with the Justice League characters redesigned to fit in with the RWBY characters, while Part Two is designed to fit the DC Universe, with Team RWBY designed to fit in with the Justice League characters.

Now, while I haven't seen the show RWBY, I did enjoy seeing this two-part movie. Mainly because I'm a big DC fan, and I really enjoy seeing heroes from the DC Universe cross over with heroes from other universes, like when Batman crossed over with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That was quite the crossover if I do say so myself. Also, for a two-part movie animated by Rooster Teeth, I had fun with this. I'm giving Justice League X RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen a rating of 4.75/5.

Alright guys, this is Chuck signing off and I'll see you guys next time.
