Review - Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and I just got back from seeing the new movie Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Directed by the returning duo of Adil & Bilal, the fourth entry in the Bad Boys franchise sees the returns of Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Joe Pantoliano, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Jacob Scipio, DJ Khaled, and Paola Nuñez, with newcomers including Tasha Smith, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Melanie Liburd, Rhea Seehorn, and Tiffany Haddish.

So, in this movie, we see Detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Bennett have to investigate a corruption within the Miami Police Department, as their Captain, Conrad Howard, is dead and has been posthumously accused of being in league with the Romanian Mafia. Unfortunately, their investigation goes awry, turning them into fugitives, and forcing them to go outside the law to solve the case and clear their names.

Okay, so there's a ton of action and a ton of hilarious banter throughout the movie. Both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are on point as Mike and Marcus, as per usually. I also really enjoyed both Alexander Ludwig and Vanessa Hudgens as Dorm and Kelly, and there's a bit of development with their characters that is both surprising and not a big surprise at the same time. Paola Nuñez as Rita had a lot to do in this movie, and she was fantastic. The villains, which included Eric Dane as McGrath and Ioan Gruffudd as Lockwood were definitely interesting, and both actors did a really good job.

The idea of a serious corruption within Miami law enforcement was definitely interesting, and the direction it went in definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. However, the rest of the plot was pretty much by the numbers for a Bad Boys movie. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it is something to mention. And, tying it all back to the death of Captain Howard, which occurred in the previous movie, was definitely something.

All in all, great action, fun movie, and fantastic work from returning directors Adil & Bilal. But, did we really need a cameo from Michael Bay in this movie? Honestly. Anyway, I had a great time with Bad Boys: Ride or Die, and I'm giving it a rating of 4.5/5. Definitely check this one out.

Okay guys, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll be back on Wednesday for my review of Ocean's Twelve.
