Breakdown - Marvel Studios' SDCC Announcements

Hey guys, Chuck here. Well, San Diego Comic-Con is currently underway, and while I was unable to attend, I was following the announcements and trailers coming out of Hall H yesterday, which for DC was limited to trailers for both Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. However, Marvel Studios has quite a massive announcement, compounded by two trailers for upcoming releases. So, let's break down the trailers and the announcements for what's to come from Marvel in the forthcoming years.

First off, we now know that Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will conclude at the end of this year, with the final film of the set being Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. And the trailer for this movie looks spectacular. I'm definitely excited for not only a return to Wakanda, but also the debut of Marvel's version of Atlantis and their leader Namor. Now, Marvel's Atlantis is set to be Mesoamerican in origin, and it's said that actor Tenoch Huerta, who is playing Namor, learned one of the Mayan languages for the role, which is awesome. The movie will also see the debut of Riri Williams/ Ironheart, and she will be working on a high-tech armor similar to that of Tony Stark's Iron Man armor. So, that's set for November, and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing it.

The other new trailer we got was for the new Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which gave us better looks at Tim Roth's Emil Blonsky/Abomination and Jameela Jamil as Titania, as well as both Benedict Wong as Wong and Charlie Cox as Daredevil. Lastly, the CGI for Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk is definitely improved since the last trailer we got for this series. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law drops next month on Disney+ along with an animated miniseries called I Am Groot. The only other releases for Phase Four that currently do NOT have trailers, and probably won't until this September at D23, are a Halloween special based on the Werewolf by Night comics, and James Gunn's The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. And that'll mark the end of Phase Four.

Now onto the official kick-off of Phase Five, which will be in February with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will see the returns of Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, who will team up with Scott's daughter Cassie to face off against both Kang the Conqueror and MODOK. I can't even tell you guys how much I am looking forward to seeing this movie in February. As for the other movies in 2023, we have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in May, which will be James Gunn's last hurrah for Marvel before jumping back over to DC, The Marvels in July, which will see Carol Danvers team up with both Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau, and finally in November, we have Blade starring Mahershala Ali as the half-human half-vampire vampire hunter Blade. Disney+ shows for 2023 will include Secret Invasion, Loki Season 2, Echo, Ironheart, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos. We'll also be seeing a second season of the animated What If...? series. 2024 will see two more Phase Five movies and one streaming series. For movies, we have Captain America: New World Order which will center on the new Captain America: Sam Wilson, and finally Thunderbolts, which is set to be Marvel's version of the Suicide Squad. And at a whopping count of eighteen episodes, we have Daredevil: Born Again starring Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, respectively. And that's it for Phase Five.

While additional titles haven't been announced yet, and will probably wait until D23 in September, we do have three film announcements for Phase Six: Fantastic Four in November 2024, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in May 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars in November 2025. Oh yeah, we're getting TWO Avengers movies in ONE year. THAT is awesome!

Compounding all of those announcements, we were also shown what this current set of Phases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is called. Much like how Phases One, Two, and Three were collectively dubbed The Infinity Saga, Phases Four, Five, and Six are being collectively dubbed The Multiverse Saga. I think that this is helpful in numerous ways, as now we have a more clear idea of the direction of this new era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I am most eagerly looking forward to seeing all of these titles, plus ones that have yet to get a set release date, such as the next Deadpool movie and a movie centered on mutants. There's a lot coming through the pipeline at Marvel, and Kevin Feige pretty much won Comic-Con this year with this Uber bombshell of a panel.

Now, will I be reviewing all of the announced titles? As far as movies go, yeah, but as far as Disney+ series go, we'll see what happens. I may review some of them, but not all of them per se. Anyway, this is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you guys next time.
