Marvel May - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Well, this marks the first Marvel May to have a newly released Marvel Studios film. So, let's take a look at the new film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, Patrick Stewart, Hayley Atwell, and many others I don't wish to spoil for you guys. This film, which was directed by Sam Raimi, marks the first Marvel Comics film for Sam Raimi since Spider-Man 3 in 2007.

So, Dr. Stephen Strange, during the reception of Christine Palmer's wedding, is forced to defeat a multiverse monster that is attacking a girl named America Chavez, who wields the ability to freely traverse across the multiverse. After seeking the help of former Avenger Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch, Strange must traverse across the multiverse to keep America safe, and stop whatever is threatening to take her power, and thus the safety of the entire multiverse. I'm going to stop there, because everything else about this movie needs to be seen firsthand.

Okay, so much like with Spider-Man: No Way Home, this movie is filled with fan service, and this is most apparent with the many elements of the multiverse. Seeing alternate universe versions of a number of characters, including Wanda, Strange, Mordo, and Christine was really cool. I also LOVED the inclusion of the Illuminati. Marvel fans are going to lose their minds seeing who's a part of the Illuminati in this movie. Three that have already been confirmed as part of it because of trailers and TV spots include Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, and Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier. I won't reveal the others, because I don't want to spoil that for those who haven't seen the movie yet. I also really liked the references to stuff like WandaVision and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The performances of the main cast were fantastic. Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Benedict Wong were all terrific in the returning roles of Doctor Strange, Wanda Maximoff, and Wong, respectively. Newcomer Xochitl Gomez was a genuine breakout as America Chavez, and she was definitely a highlight of the movie for me. Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chiwetel Ejiofor we're also excellent as Christine Palmer, Nicodemus West, and Keep Mordo, as well. And, of course, much like ANY Sam Raimi project, we do get a cameo from actor Bruce Campbell. And it is definitely worth it.

The music score by Danny Elfman was definitely fantastic. I thoroughly loved the leitmotif from the classic 90's X-Men animated series theme song by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy that popped up in the movie. As a Marvel Fan, that and the other elements of Danny Elfman's music were terrific throughout the movie. The visual effects also were fantastic. If you thought the original Doctor Strange had trippy visuals, this movie has visuals that are TEN TIMES more trippy and mind-blowing.

Now, while the visual effects and the story are both phenomenal, I must add that a number of elements are much too frightening for smaller children. So, parents, I warn you now: please consider before taking children, say, younger than age twelve to see this movie. Other than that, however, I do recommend this movie for Marvel fans everywhere. Sam Raimi definitely delivered a fantastic experience. Definitely stay through the credits for some exciting after-credits scenes. I'm giving Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness a rating of 5/5. This is Chuck signing off, and Marvel May will continue as I take a look at the 2002 Sam Raimi film Spider-Man.
