Review - Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Earlier this evening, I went to see the newest chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Spider-Man: No Way Home. Don't worry, no spoilers in this review for those who haven't seen the movie yet, but I highly encourage going to see it in theaters, as it is easily the best film of Marvel's Phase Four, in addition to topping Denis Villeneuve's Dune as my absolute favorite film of 2021.

So, after Quentin Beck aka Mysterio outed Peter Parker as the masked hero Spider-Man, Peter's life and reputation are tarnished. After getting out of trouble with the law with some help from a certain lawyer Marvel fans will be happy to see make the leap to the big screen, Peter then feels guilty about himself, Ned, and MJ getting rejected from attending college at MIT. Peter turns to Doctor Strange for help in making the world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. However, due to changing the spell too much, villains with ties to Peter Parker from across the multiverse show up, and Peter must find a way to send them all back to where they came from. And that's where I'm going to stop to avoid any major spoilers. Again, you guys need to see this movie.

Okay, so every returning actor from the MCU is terrific here. Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, and Benedict Cumberbatch were all fantastic. JK Simmons has a pretty sizeable role as J. Jonah Jameson, and he's exceptionally hilarious in this movie. Finally, the villains. Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Thomas Haden Church, Rhys Ifans, and Jamie Foxx as Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Lizard, and Electro we're welcome returns from previous Spider-Man film franchises. And the interactions between them were really cool, with Ock, Sandman, and Goblin from the Spider-Man series with Tobey Maguire recognizing each other, as do Lizard and Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man series with Andrew Garfield.

The action in this movie is definitely the best of the three MCU Spider-Man films, but I don't want to go into detail, because those would be spoilers. Just know, you won't be disappointed. Also, there are tons of references to the earlier franchises of Spider-Man that long-time Spidey fans will absolutely love. This movie is a genuine love letter to fans of Marvel and fans of Spider-Man. Jon Watts did an excellent job with this movie, and I eagerly await seeing what he can do with the Fantastic Four.

All in all, I had the time of my life watching Spider-Man: No Way Home. If you're a fan of the character, or even just a fan of the MCU, then definitely see this movie, and be sure to stick around through the end of the credits for a first look at the upcoming Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. So, as far as a rating goes, Spider-Man: No Way Home gets a 5/5 from me, or a 10/10 if you prefer. Either way, I loved every minute from start to finish.

This is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you guys tomorrow with the continuation of 12 Reviews of Christmas.
