Review - Frozen Fever (2015)

Hey guys, Chuck here. Well, I promised during my Once Upon a Snowman that I'd get to this one in the Spring, and here we are. Let's just get into it. This is Frozen Fever.

So, of course, we start off in Arendelle castle, where Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven are getting ready for Anna's birthday party. Elsa plans to take Anna all around Arendelle, where there are plenty of gifts and other surprises in store. It is also at this point where we see that Elsa has a case of the sniffles. Yep, Elsa has a cold. So, while Elsa wants to make the perfect birthday for Anna, Anna wants Elsa to get some rest instead.

So, it's all over town for the two sisters, with Elsa giving Anna a bunch of birthday presents, and Anna trying to convince Elsa that they should go home for Elsa's sake. Meanwhile, the combination of Elsa's magic and the cold, little snowman creatures called Snowgies start to poof into existence every time Elsa let's out a sneeze. Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf all work together to make sure the birthday setup in the castle courtyard doesn't get wrecked by these little snow gremlins, and Olaf even tries putting the "Happy Birthday, Anna" banner back together, accidentally spelling it as "Dry Banana Hippy Hat."

Anna and Elsa return, the party goes well, and Elsa blows the birthday horn, but ends up shooting a massive snowball out of it, which flies all the way to the Southern Isles and crashes into Hans. Heh, serves the d-bag right. Honestly. Anyway, Elsa ends up in bed, with Anna helping with her recovery, and Olaf and Kristoff take the Snowgies, of which there are hundreds of the little guys at this point, to the Ice Palace on the North Mountain, where the snow golem Marshmallow has made his home. When Marshmallow looks puzzled by the arrival of the Snowgies, Kristoff looks at him and says "Don't ask."

So, Frozen Fever was a cute short film. There was only one song, "Making Today a Perfect Day," and it was fine. The voice cast, all of whom returned from Frozen, were all terrific. I do like that we actually get to see Anna and Elsa spend a lot of time together in this short. Heck, the sisters are together in this short film more than they were in the entire first movie. The side stuff with Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven were pretty funny, and I enjoyed the humor with the three of them. Now, one could argue that, much like the Minions from Despicable Me, the Snowgies were just cute little creatures made to sell more toys. And, it's hard not to argue with that. Definitely a textbook definition of an animated short, Frozen Fever gets a 4.25/5. As far as Frozen shorts go, I still think that the Christmas short Olaf's Frozen Adventure is the better one. Well, that wraps up everything out there that's related to Frozen, at least until Disney goes out and makes Frozen 3, which honestly, two movies and three shorts are enough out of the Frozen franchise for me. This is Chuck signing off, and I'll see you guys next Tuesday for my review of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
