HallowScream - Jimmy Neutron: Nightmare in Retroville (2003)

Hey guys, Chuck here. You may recall that last November, I took a look at the show The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, in particular the 2003 made-for-TV movie Operation: Rescue Jet Fusion. Well, a few weeks after that aired, Nickelodeon released a Halloween special for Jimmy Neutron. However, while horror and monster-themed episodes have aired in the past, such as The Phantom of Retroville, Sleepless in Retroville, and so on, this particular episode was made specifically as a Halloween episode/ So, here we are: Nightmare in Retroville

It's Halloween night in Retroville, and Jimmy offers to turn his friends Carl and Sheen into monsters for Halloween. Using his latest invention, the Neutronic Monster Maker, a machine that can turn people into one of 102 different monsters at the molecular level, Jimmy turns Sheen and Carl into a werewolf and a vampire respectively. Meanwhile, Jimmy's dad, Hugh, accidentally falls into the lab and, using the machine, turns himself into Frankenstein's monster. Meanwhile, after a bit of trick-or-treating, Carl and Sheen begin to exhibit the behaviors of a real vampire and werewolf, even turning Cindy and Libby into a vampire and werewolf, respectively. After a scuffle between the two vampires, the two werewolves, and Hugh as Frankenstein's monster, the five monsters decide to wreak havoc across Retroville. Jimmy, meanwhile, decides to turn himself into a monster big enough to capture the others and return them to normal. The townsfolk, meanwhile, chase the monsters to the windmill of the local miniature golf course, and Jimmy, having turned himself into a monster called "Octopus Man," captures the others and takes them back to the lab, where they are returned to normal. Jimmy, still as Octopus Man, rings the doorbells of several houses on the block and says "Trick or treat," ending the special.

Nightmare in Retroville is a fun Halloween special. I really like the different monsters that appear on the wheel for the Neutronic Monster Maker, aside from the four that the characters turn into. Monsters include Jekyll and Hyde, the Blob, the Phantom of the Opera, the Mummy, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and so forth. The story is fun, and definitely is what comes to mind when I think of a Jimmy Neutron Halloween special. 5/5 for this one. This is Chuck signing off. See you guys next time.
