Throwback Thursday - Top 5 Worst Marvel Movies

Hey guys, Chuck here. With Marvel May kicking off next Thursday, I thought I'd run down a list of five movies that, in my opinion, are the worst Marvel movies ever made. Outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there have been films that have ranged from excellent, passable, underwhelming, and just plain bad. In my opinion, even the most underwhelming Marvel movies,  like the Fantastic Four movies with Ioan Gruffudd and Jessica Alba, Daredevil with Ben Affleck, and the Ghost Rider movies with Nicholas Cage, have some level of entertainment to them. However. the five movies on this list have nothing entertaining about them, and therefore are completely unwatchable. So, for the last Throwback Thursday before Marvel May, let's take a look at the Top 5 Worst Marvel Movies.

          # 5 - Elektra: Directed by Rob Bowman, this 2005 spin-off of Daredevil sees the return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios, who after becoming an assassin for hire, comes into conflict with a clan of ninja assassins known as the Hand. This movie was a complete letdown marred by a series of bad decisions, and not even casting the legendary Terence Stamp as the blind warrior Stick could save this dumpster fire of a movie. As much as I enjoy the director's cut of Daredevil, I can't bring myself to watch this one.

          # 4 - Hulk: Years before Mark Ruffalo, and even Edward Norton before him, we had the most God-awful take on Bruce Banner ever put on the silver screen: Eric Bana. The 2003 Hulk film, directed by Ang Lee, was boring as hell, completely ridiculous, and had some of the most flat, uninterested acting I've ever seen in a superhero film. Add to that a batshit-crazy performance by Nick Nolte as the batshit-crazy villain of the picture, and you've got the worst representation of the Incredible Hulk I've ever seen.

          # 3 - Dark Phoenix: The most recent film of the X-Men franchise, Simon Kinberg's first directorial effort was a bit of a snooze-fest. While Sophie Turner's performance as Jean was enjoyable, the cast from X-Men: First Class seemed tired and uninterested. I was severely disappointed in the death of Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique in the movie. There's a reason I don't own the movie on Blu-ray, and it's the same reason that it was pulled from theaters after only two weeks: this movie was a very dull and boring closing chapter to the X-Men series.

          # 2 - Punisher: War Zone: Released in 2008 and directed by Lexi Alexander, this movie spits in the face of the legacy of the Punisher, the laws of physics, and conventional logic all at once. Ray Stevenson, while enjoyable in other roles I've seen him in, was dull and boring as Frank Castle, and Dominic West was completely the wrong choice to portray Jigsaw. The story was all over the place, and I couldn't enjoy it. What comedian Patton Oswalt sees in this train wreck of a movie is beyond me, but as a fan of the Punisher, I was disappointed  by this one.

          # 1 - Fant4stic: Are any of you really surprised by this one? Released in 2015, the most recent Fantastic Four movie is honestly worst. Director Josh Trank claims to have had a solid story for the film, but 20th Century Fox screwed it all up. There's no getting around it. The movie was terrible, and wasn't worth seeing in theaters. Heck, it's been almost five years and I still want a refund. Hopefully, Marvel Studios can do a much better job with the Fantastic Four than than Fox did, and with the rumors of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt in talks to star, and Joss Whedon possibly in talks to direct, I'm intrigued by a potential MCU Fantastic Four movie.

And there you have it, the Top 5 Worst Marvel Movies. Do you agree? Are there Marvel movies you consider to be worse? I'd sure like to know what you guys think. This is Chuck signing off. See you guys next week when Marvel May kicks off with my review of Iron Man.
