Movie Review: The Addams Family (2019)

Hey guys, Chuck here, and this is my review of the new movie "The Addams Family."

The story starts off with the wedding of Gomez and Morticia, which ends with the two of them fleeing from an angry mob, until the settle into an abandoned insane asylum in New Jersey. Thirteen years pass, and the Addams family, which now includes Wednesday and Pugsley, the children of Gomez and Morticia, getting ready for a family gathering. All the while, reality TV host Margaux Needler makes plans to give the Addams family a complete home makeover by any means necessary.

First of all, the animation was superb. Not only did the gothic nature of the Addams house feel believable, but the family themselves have the design of Charles Addams' original New Yorker cartoons that featured the family. However, the original New Yorker versions did not have names, which came later due to the popular sitcom from the 1960's. This film is the perfect combination of both.

Second of all, I really liked the cast they got to provide the voices of the Addams family. Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron were spectacular as Gomez and Morticia, while Chloe Grace Moretz and Finn Wolfhard were terrific as Wednesday and Pugsley. Bette Midler was also great as Grandmama Addams, while Snoop Dogg was a lot of fun as Cousin Itt. At first, Nick Kroll was a bit annoying as Fester, but by the end of the movie, I didn't mind his voice that much.

While there are a lot of things I really liked about this movie, I do feel like it was made more for kids. Not little kids necessarily, but definitely more for kids than previous film versions of the Addams family. Overall though, I had a lot of fun with this movie, and I give "The Addams Family" a rating of a 4.75 out of 5.

This is Chuck signing off. See you guys next time.
